House Designs, Plans And Working With Your Designer

May 20, 2009 House Plans Comments Off

The relationship between you and your architect or designer as the way that you communicate will have a large impact on not only the way your house design, plans and everything turns out, but also your sanity.

Sometimes it can be really hard to communicate with people who have knowledge in a field that you do not. Imagine talking to a nuclear scientist about what he is currently working on. Chances are that you will have no idea what he is talking about and you trying to have input will be pointless. The point of this post is to make sure that this doesnt happen to you when you are talking with your draftsman.

Communication is the key when talking to your draftsman about your house designs.
Here are a few simple tips to make sure you and your designer communicate well.

1. Share Your Level Of Knowledge

Plans can be confusing, so you need to make sure that your designer can communicate with you at your level. Before he can do this, he needs to know what that level is. So at your first meeting talk about how much you understand about house plans, designs and how the process works.

2. Ask Your Designer To Communicate On Your Level

Now that your designer knows your level of knowledge, simply ask him to ‘dumb down’ his technical jargon to your level. Designers are talking house designs, plans and dimensions all day, and they sometimes forget that you only have to worry about them 2 or 3 times in your life.

3. Ask For Clarification

If there is something that you do not understand then ask for clarification. Your designer will just summize you are grasping everything unless you stop them and tell them you do not understand.

These three simple steps will save you a lot of frustration and make your dealings with your designer a lot more fun. Remember if you are looking for Australian house plans then fill in the form below to preview over 150 plans designed specifically for the Australian market.
